Pregnancy #2 - week 25

Well ... since week 26 is just 3 days away, I feel quite foolish posting week 25's update.  But I took the pictures last Wednesday so I figured I should still go on with the post.  I don't really remember or have any updates so I'll try to be more specific with the next weekly post.

Gap Brand Maternity, extra small tank/size 25 (0) Lucky Brand Lil Maggie Jeans

I'm finally running out of pre-pregnancy jeans that will fit ... these for example are some old Lucky Brand Jeans I had from college.  Yes they are slightly flare and yes I know they probably aren't the most stylish.

According to, baby is the size of a cauliflower.  "During month six, the average fetus measures about 13.6 inches to 14.8 inches and weighs about 1.5 to 2.5 pounds."

pregnancy symptoms at 25 weeks
  • Constipation. Be sure to eat plenty of fiber-rich foods! - meh?
  • Hemorrhoids -- baby is putting a ton of pressure on your digestive tract. And the constipation certainly isn't helping. - sheesh nope!
  • Gas and bloating. Your hormones are slowing down digestion, creating excess gas. - maybe?
  • Heartburn. Since baby is pushing on your digestive system it can push stomach acid up your esophagus. - uh yeah
  • All-over aches and pains, thanks to hormone fluctuations.  - yep
  • Trouble sleeping. It's tough to get comfy with that big belly in the way!  - totally!

A November heat wave

After weeks and weeks of having weather in the 20'-40's we were finally blessed with a high of 72 today.

It's not lasting long unfortunately and has only provided one day of a heat wave. I took advantage and ran outside after my 6th Pure Barre class (I'm on week 3 of my unlimited month).

I finished a little over 4 miles and walked 1 mile of it.

Hope everyone is having a great Monday so far!

Pregnancy #2 - week 24

Guess what folks ... I didn't feel up to taking these pictures this week.  Shocker.  It's been cold in Charlotte and my "look" for the past few days hasn't been camera-worthy.
Gap Body Maternity tank, size extra small/Hanes sweat pants size small

This past week was rough, with Mason getting over his cold and me trying not to re-catch it.  We also made the long drive down to Jacksonville, FL for a short wedding visit. We arrived around 3pm on Friday afternoon and left at 9:30am on Sunday morning.  I loved seeing my parents and friends for a short time but the trip was really short and really exhausting.

Anyways, this week brought a return to fitness after taking 4 days off.  I went to Pure Barre on Monday and today and followed up each class with a few miles on the treadmill at the YMCA.

I've been trying to eat better the past few days after basically eating all bad food during the weekend.  Fast food just seems easier during road trips.

according to, baby is the size of a cantaloupe.  "Your 10.5-to-11.8-inch fetus weighs about 12.7 to 20.8 ounces and every week she gets closer and closer to being ready to survive (and thrive!) in the outside world."
pregnancy symptoms:
- swollen ankles and feet: not too bad normally, but definitely showed up after dancing and wearing high heels Saturday night at the wedding.
- leg cramps, which can be a sign of dehydration: Yep, saw that today while I was laying on the couch.  most definitely due to not drinking enough water today
- back aches: oh yeah these are unfortunately still around and in full force
- linea nigra: don't have the dark line, but didn't really have it with Mason.  my belly does seem furrier in general though.  I'm a hairy person so I'm not surprised.
- stretch marks: thankfully still no signs of these.  I've been trying to lather up after showers with Burt's Bees Mama Bee Belly Butter to avoid those marks.

And that's about it for this week.  Still working out (although running very slowly and less distance), still dabbling in Pure Barre, trying to eat healthy, and trying to rest while taking care of the very active and involved Mason.

The Blind Rabbit

This past weekend Ryan, Mason, and I headed to Jacksonville, FL for a wedding weekend.  Although the wedding was on Saturday night, Friday night was free for Ryan and I to try a new restaurant.

We stumbled upon The Blind Rabbit, which was conveniently located a few blocks from our hotel.

While Ryan was on a phone call for work, I took the opportunity to order myself a milkshake as I perused the menu.

I somehow convinced Ryan to split our meal ... I promised him there would be plenty of food and asked the server to split a salad, burger, and side between the both of us.
The salad went unpictured but was a delicious fall inspired daily special full of sliced green apples, marcona almonds, goat cheese, and other fresh ingredients.

The cheeseburger was juicy and cooked to a perfect medium.  I loved that the kitchen did the work for us of splitting the burger and macaroni and cheese in half.  The brioche bun was fresh and the perfect match for the large meat patty.  I love when I order a burger and don't have to add any additional condiments ... the mayonnaise was the perfect addition to the pickles, lettuce, and cheese (I removed the tomato from my half).
The milkshake was amazing and super yummy.  The burger also did not disappoint and the macaroni and cheese was cheesy and hearty.  This was a great meal in a different city and I highly recommend y'all to try The Blind Rabbit if ever in the Jacksonville area.

Pregnancy #2 - week 23

Holy heck I hate being sick.  Mason has gotten another cold this fall (last one was mid October) and was nice enough to share it with me.  Plus after my "meh" tasting Panera sandwich yesterday, I came home and threw up.  I'm still having trouble holding food down and the cold isn't really helping.  While Mason was in his room for nap time I definitely went to bed and was lucky that Mason finally fell asleep and was in there a long time.  I'm back in bed now and am looking forward to resting up some more.

I was totally going to skip writing this update until next week but then figured I should just throw something together and move on.  My doctor's appointment last Friday went well ... I weighed 122 pounds, up 6 pounds from the last appointment 4 weeks prior.

Baby's heart beat was good, my blood pressure was good, and my glucose screening was scheduled for December 5th.

I'm sorry I look so terrible ... I just took a shower, put my hair back up into a bun, and managed to stand still long enough for 4 pictures.  Next week, fingers crossed, I look like a human again.

Aside from the sickness the past couple of days, this week had been going well.  I began taking Pure Barre classes in hopes of toning up my arms and legs prior to baby's arrival.

according to the, baby is the size of a grapefruit, at about 10.5 to 11.8 inches and about 12.7 to 20.8 ounces.  symptoms this week include swollen feet/ankles (nope not yet), Braxton hicks contractions (yep), aching back (oh yeah), and bleeding gums (had it last week, not so much this week).

Here's to a healthier week!

Whoa let's slow down with all of the working out around here. After taking yesterday off due to a sniffly Mason (couldn't take him to the gym) I felt more than ready to bring it today.

I ran 2.55 miles before my second Pure Barre class. Please tell me that place gets easier? I find myself doing maybe 2/3 of the class and stretching the rest of the time. After class I headed back outside for 1.10 miles, half of the time spent walking.

With fuel on my mind I stopped into Panera for a quick lunch.

The autumn squash soup was very tasty. Save the trouble and skip getting their new turkey cranberry flatbread. It was meh at best.

My arms are already feeling sore from barre and I can imagine my legs will be following shortly.

Hope everyone is having a good week so far!

My first pure barre experience

Happy Monday!

After dropping Mason off at school I headed about 0.5 miles down the street to the Pure Barre studio. Class didn't start until 9:40 so I used my free time to go on a jog.

2.5 miles later I was ready to sign in for my first Pure Barre class. I paid for the $100 unlimited month new student special in hopes of attending at least 9-10 classes. Bank of America was also offering 10% cash back on all Pure Barre purchases so I figured I couldn't pass up $90 on these classes.

Holy intense! The class was hard ... In a good way though. My thighs were definitely shaking at some points. Elizabeth (the instructor) was fabulous in showing me some modifications for my pregnant self.

All in all I was a little overwhelmed because all of the chicks (and one dude) seemed to really know what they were doing. But hopefully after going a few more times I'll be one of the regulars :)

The rest of my morning has been filled with a much needed (overpriced) manicure and pedicure and now some decaf coffee at Starbucks.

Hope everyone is having a great morning!

Couples running

So we are guilty of running out of things to do at home with Mason. He's just so busy and into everything. Our only solution became to load up the car and head to the YMCA for some family exercise time.

After dropping Mason off at the daycare Ryan and I headed upstairs to the indoor track. We ran 2 miles and walked 1/4 mile as a cool down. Even though we both had our headphones in I much more prefer to run alongside Ryan than alone. It's nice knowing he's there :)

Then we split up and I hit up some bicep work on my own.

3 sets, 10 reps each of bicep curls using a pair of 8 pound weights
3 sets, 10 reps each of a seated bicep machine on 3rd weight

Time to pick up Mason and finish enjoying our Saturday! Happy weekend everyone.

First 40's run of the season

Well it looks like fall is slowly ending in Charlotte and winter is right around the corner. Temperatures will be in the 20's by next weekend which make me value today's run that much more.

Although I was probably dressed to run in the tundra, I wasn't cold as I ran my first 46 degree run of the season.

4 miles done and now I'm waiting to see the doctor for a routine pregnancy visit. Happy Friday everyone!

pregnancy #2 - week 22

this week was hard.  my lower back has been killing me and daylight savings has made it impossible for Mason to sleep past 5:30am.  I am exhausted ... it's hard chasing after Mason, making sure the house is clean, making 3 meals a day for 2-3 people, and continuing to work out so I don't weigh 300 pounds by the time this pregnancy is over.

gap body maternity tank extra small,
 forever 21 size small leggings

a fellow pregnant mom from Mason's class asked how everything is going (she's 5 weeks newer than me I think) and I just told her the truth ... it's getting harder.  I think while pregnant with Mason I was distracted with working full time and the whole novelty of having a baby.  now things are a lot more "real" this time around.  I am still very fortunate and thankful that my pregnancy is going so well ... but I find myself complaining a lot more than I think I did the 1st time around.  for that I apologize, to y'all and especially to the ones who hear me complain the most (ahem Ryan).

anyways ... aside from the lack of sleep and back pain, things are going swimmingly.

from, baby measures about 10.5 to 11.8 inches, and weighs 12.7 to 20.8 ounces (that seems like a large range, no?)
- back aches (check)
- outtie belly button (check)
- stretch marks (don't think any yet)

And I was wrong during last week's post ... my doctor's appointment will be THIS Friday so I'll have more of an update medical-wise next week for week 23.

Pregnancy brain strikes again

After dropping Mason off at school I decided to get my run done quickly so I would have plenty of time for errands.

4 miles later I was done and taking selfies in the preschool's bathroom.

Side note, I wore my new maternity exercise crops from the Gap and hated them while running! They are fine for barre and more stationary work outs, but kept sliding off during my run. I'm sure I looked humorous hiking them up every couple of minutes.

As I drove to the dry cleaners to begin my list of errands I noticed I had left my wallet at home! No wallet meant no money so after dropping off our clothes I headed home. I hate wasting a morning but it was nice to be at home for a little bit before leaving to pick Mason up from school.

What's better than eating a cheeseburger?

Wearing a tshirt with a cheeseburger on it. I'm obsessed with my latest Forever 21 sale item ... A cut off cheeseburger graphic tee.

I just finished jogging 3 miles (1/4 mile walking) around the indoor track in about 27 minutes.

Then I did 3 different shoulder exercises, 3 sets of 10 reps each, using a pair of 5 pound weights.
- lateral raises
- side raises
- military press

Time to pick up the monster from daycare!

October running in review

Sheesh ... October was definitely a rough month of running for me.  After having a terrible fall early in the month, I was sore and injured for a while and scared of running outside.  Then I got a 2 week lingering cold.  Excuses excuses right?  I managed to run 50 miles so I guess things could be worse.

50.9 total miles
total runs -17
average miles ran each time - 2.99 miles
fastest pace - 10/1 4.1 miles 8:57 min/mi
slowest pace - 10/11 2.3 miles 16:18 min/mi
shortest run - 1.95 miles on 10/7
longest run - 5.03 miles on 10/20
# of races - 2
Looking forward to finishing up the year with at least another 100 miles.  With the weather we've had in Charlotte lately, I wouldn't be surprised if most of those miles are done indoors at the gym.
