On Saturday morning I had the opportunity to run the Hit the Brixx 10k in uptown Charlotte. It was really humid and muggy out and I considered not heading to the race if it was raining, but I somehow managed to drag myself down to the race site.
I knew I didn't want to push myself so this race was merely a "higher" mileage run for me. My music stopped working around mile 3.5 and I didn't want to stop to walk to figure out what went wrong. Sometimes running without music isn't so bad, especially when you have tons of other runners around you. Unfortunately this was about the time we hit this massive hill ... my mile 4 time was 9:09 min/mile.
Also Mason had somehow configured my Garmin to beep after every 30 seconds, as part of the run/walk feature. That was also something I didn't want to stop to figure out and had to endure the beeping for the entire race.
I finished with a net time of 53:31 minutes (8:37 pace), 16th in my age group, 56th out of 332 women, and 186th out of 627 runners.
This may have been the last race for Baby C ... I hate participating in a race and not fully pushing myself, but I ultimately know that I have to do what's best for baby, which is slow and steady. Who knows ... if given the option to run another race (as in the form of a free race entry) I'll probably do it. It gives me an excuse to get my run done first thing in the morning!
