1. Trip on a crack in the sidewalk
2. Fall from tripping on the sidewalk
3. Break my wrist from trying to catch myself while falling from tripping on the sidewalk
One of the most terrible things that could possibly happen to a person, especially a stay at home mom who is still breast feeding, is break an arm. You need both arms to do basic things like carry your 18 pound baby and change a diaper.
Let's talk about the kindness of strangers for a minute. A woman saw me fall and stopped alongside the sidewalk to see if I was all right. Clearly I wasn't, so she drove me the 3 blocks back to my house. From there Ryan and Mason took me to the emergency room where I stayed as they cleaned all of my scrapes and then x-rayed and put a splint on my broken wrist.
Since Wednesday night Ryan has been helping me deal with Mason which isn't easy while working full time. So mad props (do people still say that?) to dad for being awesome.
Before my doctor appointment on Friday I found the only way to carry Mason was using my Bjorn carrier. It makes me sad that I can't just pick up my little boy anymore, at least not for awhile.
At the doctors appointment I was told there might be a need for surgery since my break wasn't a "clean" break. Awesome. I'll find out more on Thursday but until then check out my awesome cast.
As the bruises and scrapes down my legs and arms begin to heal, so too will my ego. Right now I'm embarrassed and really sad that I ruined doing the one activity that kept me sane ... Running. The doctor said I could run in a couple of days but I'm scared and traumatized. We'll see how long it takes before I lace up my sneakers. Until then there will just be cheeseburgers and not so much running for them.
