Ramblin' Rose 5 miler

Well I did it.

I ran the Ramblin' Rose 5 miler and actually finished in an acceptable time and pace.  I had originally signed up for the Ramblin' Rose half marathon but had to downgrade to the shorter distance after I broke my wrist and underwent corrective surgery.

So after a month of almost no running (I think I jogged a total of 5 miles during the month of September) I went to the race on Saturday with a goal of finishing in 1 hour.  Ryan and Mason were waiting for me at the finish line so I wanted to finish faster than that.

It was a gray day in Charlotte ... humid, misty rain, and temperatures hovering in the high 60's.  I was worried about the slippery roads and kept thinking that I was going to trip and fall and hurt myself (again).

After way too many walking breaks I finished the race and was ready to head home.

my mile splits:
mile 1 - 8:35 minutes
mile 2 - 16:59 minutes (8:24 minutes/mile)
mile 3 - 26:41 minutes (9:41 minutes/mile)
mile 4 - 35:49 minutes (9:08 minutes/mile)
mile 5 - 44:35 minutes (8:46 minutes/mile)

Official race time - 44:49 minutes (8:58 minutes/mile),

Overall I had a great time running this race ... sarcasm much?  I would've had a better time running this race if I wasn't injured, if it wasn't partially rainy and super humid, and if I was better prepared for the distance.  I'm so happy that the lovely people at Run for your Life allowed me to change my entry from the half marathon distance to the 5 miler. Hopefully I'll be ready to run the half marathon next year.

In the past 6 months since I gave birth to Mason, I've run 2 5k's, a 4 miler, a 10k, and a 5 miler (and I broke my wrist running but let's focus on the positive).  Not too shabby for getting back into the whole running thing.
