a little biometrics at the YMCA

the best thing in the world happened on Sunday evening ... my parents arrived from FLORIDA!  not only does that mean I get to spend endless hours of quality time with them, it also means FREE CHILD CARE.

yesterday I got to enjoy an hour of free time at the YMCA.  working out = Jess happiness

after having a couple of slow and leisurely jogs on the Greenway (2.5 miles on Saturday and 2.6 miles on Sunday) it was nice to pump out some speedy running on the treadmill.

mile 1 - 8:08 minutes
mile 2 - 15:30 minutes (7:22 minute pace)
mile 3 - 22:36 minutes (7:06 minute pace)

After I was done with my run I wandered around the gym in hopes of finding a trainer.  I finally found Brittany and asked if she would mind calculating my body fat (something I had wanted to do since having Mason).
"First, your body fat percentage is simply the percentage of fat your body contains. If you weigh 140 pounds and are 10% fat, it means that your body consists of 14 pounds fat and 126 pounds lean body mass (bone, muscle, organ tissue, blood,...)" - from BMI Calculator

body fat - 18.3
lean mass - 97.06 pounds

"For women between age 20 and 40, 19% to 26% body fat is generally good to excellent" - from Health Status

Once Brittany wrote down my stats, she suggested if I'm looking to get tone that perhaps I should incorporate more weight training into my daily exercise since my body fat level is already so low and not really the problem.

I'm looking forward to hitting up the gym again today for some more cardio on the treadmill and an introduction to weight training.
