Seven Weeks

I love getting my weekly emails from Babycenter, alerting me of another milestone in Mason's growth.  This week provided some interesting facts on his development:

How your baby's growing:

Your baby's brain is expanding in size and complexity. It will grow about 5 centimeters during the first three months.

You may notice short periods of time when your newborn is quiet and alert. This is prime time for learning. Use these calm intervals to get better acquainted with your baby — talk to her, sing to her, describe the pictures on the walls. She may not be able to add to your conversation just yet, but she's learning nonetheless.

New textures for her hands to feel and new sights and sounds (all in moderation) are all learning opportunities. Even bath time becomes a laboratory for understanding the world around her.

I wish I could say this past week has been full of smiles and laughter (although he has started smiling at us).  Today especially has been a rough day and it's only half way over.  He's been extra fussy since early this morning; doesn't seem to know what he wants (although I shouldn't expect him to spell things out for me ... he's a BABY).

We did have one night of 4 hour sleeping stretches on Monday.  I only had to wake up once to feed him (around 1:45am) and then Ryan gave him a bottle around 6:30am while I was at a yoga class.  Since then the past couple of nights have been filled with stretches of 2-3 hours between feedings.  I'm exhausted just thinking about it.

I have continued to work out and have started noticing that my belly bulge is starting to go away.  I'm still not back at pre-pregnancy weight or shape, but I know I'll get there eventually.  Mason continues to enjoy going in the jogging stroller and has become a very reliable work out companion (he doesn't really have a choice in the matter).  I've also been taking one yoga class a week, as added exercise and relaxation.

We've tried to put Mason down in his crib for naps and unfortunately he still does not like it.  I'm going to try to put him in there more during the day during NON-SLEEP time so that he can begin to associate the crib with a happy place.  Who knows if that will help.  For now he'll continue to sleep in our room in his little cradle/rocking device.

He's been growing out of a lot of clothes and has been wearing some onesies in the 3-6 months range.  I'm curious to see how much he has grown since his 4 week appointment.

And that's about it!  Each week brings so much change to our little monster that it's hard to keep track of everything.
