On Friday Ryan and I ran the Twilight 5k around uptown Charlotte. The race started at 7pm and the start and finish line were merely blocks from our apartment. It was a popular race, with over 2500 participants. I was really looking forward to shaving some seconds off my PR from the CPCC Skyline 5k on 4/30, but unfortunately that wasn't the case. The race started off a bit downhill and I finished the first mile in right under 7 minutes. My time after mile 2 was 14:40 minutes, which still had me on pace for a new PR. Unfortunately right after mile 2 came the longest, hardest hill EVER. Maybe I'm exaggerating a bit, but having the race end with such a hard uphill was cruel and unusual punishment for all of us racers. I barely dragged myself across the finish line and finished in 23:54 minutes (11 seconds slower than my PR). I was glad I finished and that I didn't stop to walk during the uphill (like I saw my lovely husband doing who STILL managed to beat me by 2 seconds EVEN with walking breaks).
After the race we grabbed our medals and stormed off. That hill was not cool and we pouted the entire walk home. Looking forward to the Summer Breeze 5k on June 18th for another chance of a faster 5k time!
