the lazy girl's workout

So ... it's no surprise that I haven't exactly been motivated to work out.  Once it became clear that I wouldn't be able to run the half marathon I had planned for in October, I couldn't stop asking myself what the point of running was.  I mean running was always my go-to for exercise but without a race scheduled all motivation gets thrown out the window.

Last week I decided to take matters into my own hands and signed up for 40 days of yoga for $40 at Orlando Power Yoga.  If running wasn't going to motivate me then maybe yoga would.  So far I've gone to 1 yoga class.  Good thing I have over 30 days left in my pass.  Hopefully I'll get to a couple of classes this week.

I've also taken a liking to cycling in the gym.  Sitting down and watching TV while working out?  What's not to love?  Monday I managed to cycle for 22 minutes, 7:36 miles, all while chatting on my phone with Julie.  Yesterday I decided to up the mileage (and effort) and in 25 minutes cycled 10:05 miles.  Much faster pace and definitely more sweat (gross, I know).

Although I'm viewing the past 2 days of work outs as "lazy" I have to remind myself that it's still better than not doing anything at all.  Hopefully the fall weather will bring out the running bug again.

M.I.A. in MPLS

so here I am again, blogging after a long absence.  was I missed?  instead of trying to recap the last week or so I rather just talk about my recent trip to Minneapolis, MN to visit my fantastic friend Jacqui.  My friend Meghan and I travelled there early Friday morning and didn't return to Orlando until late Sunday night.  what.a.weekend.  Fun was had all around.  Oh and I'm just sitting at the airport waiting for my flight to Charlotte.  Did I mention I was a jet-setter?  no?  good, cause I'm definitely no such thing.

Since I didn't do a good job of blogging the past couple of days, I figured I would share some iPhone pictures I took Saturday, Sunday, and Monday.

subway - fresh fit

I can't remember the last time I bought lunch while I was at work.  For the past 3 or 4 months I've been bringing in the same boring peanut butter and jelly sandwich as my lunch.  Sadly I ran out a bread a couple of days ago and have been finding interesting lunch alternatives; yesterday I filled up on snacks all day and never really had a lunch.  Today I decided to stop by Subway on my out of the mall during my brief hour break.
seems like a lot of spinach

I opted for a 6 inch veggie sandwich on 9 grain wheat bread.  I chose provolone for my cheese and piled on the veggies ... I had to ask her for spinach two different times cause it didn't seem like she put enough the first time around, then some red onions, black olives, pickles, a little honey mustard sauce (no fat!), and oil and vinegar.  Yum!  Wish I would've sprung the $1.50 more to make it a 5 ... 5 dollar ... 5 dollar footlooooooooooong.

rain rain go away ...

Seems like the rain has been here all week (or all summer) and isn't thinking of leaving any time soon.

The rain has caused me to work out indoors twice this week and is currently preventing me from going to trivia at Tijuana Flat's.  Since I haven't had time at work to do my blogging (the nerve of my job getting in the way of mindless blogging) I decided to get some gibberish written while I wait for the rain to subside.

It is much easier for me to talk myself out of working out than it is to talk myself into working out.  For example, today would've been a good day to continue my indoor cardio routine except I knew I would be leaving Honey alone later in the evening while I went to trivia.  God forbid the dog is alone all day while I'm at work, while I'm in the gym, and then again while I'm out with friends.  So I had to choose what activity to cut out ... exercising was out of the picture faster than you can say "my dog runs the show."

In my defense (wow I didn't know I had to have a defense against myself) I did work out on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Tuesday
  • cycled 3.82 miles in 21 minutes (while I was reading Eat, Pray, Love)
  • ellipticized (made up word) 1.75 miles in 19 minutes (still reading Eat, Pray, Love)
Wednesday
  • ran on the treadmill 3.1 miles in 27:30 minutes
  • cycled 5.8 miles in 17 minutes (this time I brought down the new Runner's World magazine to read)
At least 40 minutes of cardio each day ... not too shabby.  I've also managed to be a vegetarian for the past 3 days ... mostly unintentional.  When Ryan is out of town I really hate making myself meals, let alone taking out a pack of chicken to defrost for just one person.  If the rain would ever stop I would continue my vegetarianism at Tijuana Flat's while ordering black bean tacos.  Mmmmm tacos.  Damn you Florida rain!

random work post

My department at the bank I work for used to have over 100 employees in the Lake Mary location.  Two years ago we were told that we were being let go since they were no longer using our accounting system.  Since then employees have found other jobs or have been laid off in small, tortuous rounds every month or so.

Currently we are at 17 people (with one person transferring to another bank department on the 10th).  The point of all of this is to state how obvious it feels when one person is missing.  I was the first and only person here up until a couple of minutes ago (it's 8:05am).  Usually people try to get into work by 7:30am to leave at 4:30pm.  The fact that I was the only person sitting here for close to 30 minutes is unnerving and quite frankly, spooky.  Rows upon rows of empty cubicles with harsh fluorescent lighting shining down on barren desks is something straight out of a horror movie.  Or at least my version of a horror movie.

Anyways have a good Thursday everyone.

tacos and total miles

Last night was Taco Tuesday at Sunny's house.  Some rowdy girls joined forces in eating delicious Mexican fare.  Along with myself and Sunny, Jaime, Bree, and Alimah were also in attendance.  Girl talk, lots of laughter, some tacos, loads of chips and salsa, and a couple of Dos Equis ... sounds like a good night to me.

Yesterday was the last day of August.  For the first time ever I have kept track of all the miles I ran during the month.  The grand total, which is not too impressive, was 47.06 miles.  24 days left until the Miracle Miles 15k and I still have a lot of training to do.
